PRIMAR Distributors
This quarter we were pleased to welcome three new PRIMAR Distributors, with a further three already scheduled for the next quarter:
Representing PRIMAR, Svein Skjæveland recently joined nearly 90 IHO Member State representatives and industry stakeholders in Gdańsk, Poland, for the 18th Hydrographic Services and Standards Committee (HSSC18) meeting.
Why it matters to PRIMAR:
S-100 Phase 2 Momentum: Four crucial product specifications (S-122, S-123, S-127, and S-131) were endorsed and are heading for Member State approval.
Future Standards: Version 1 of S-125 (Marine Aids to Navigation) was approved, targeting endorsement in 2027.
Proven Benefits: Insights from multiple global test beds successfully demonstrated the real-world advantages of S-100.
Our thanks go out to the Hydrographic Office of the Polish Navy for hosting a highly productive week.
Bridging Industry and Standardisation
At the end of April, Svein Skjæveland traveled to Sandefjord, Norway, to participate in the CIRM Technical Conference. Joining 75 representatives from across the maritime sector, the event provided a crucial platform to gain industry insights into the future of the S-100 framework.
The majority of attendees represented companies specialising in marine communication and navigation equipment, a group that plays a critical role in bringing new standards to life. CIRM is highly active in the S-100 rollout, particularly from an implementation perspective. By actively supporting the development of S-100 ECDIS, the organisation provides vital, real-world feedback to regulatory bodies like the IHO, IMO, and IEC.
Our thanks go to Jotron (https://www.jotron.com/) for hosting such an engaging and collaborative event!
PRIMAR Tracks Crucial S-100 Milestone at IMO’s NCSR 13
PRIMAR was on the ground in London this June, with Julien Barbeau and Svein Skjæveland representing PRIMAR at the IMO’s NCSR 13 sub-committee meeting.
Why it matters for S-100 rollout:
New Connectivity Framework: The sub-committee finalized a draft circular establishing guidelines for global, IP-based data distribution between shore facilities and ships for S-100 ECDIS products and route exchanges.
Next Regulatory Steps: The circular now heads to the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) for approval this December.
Call for Urgent Testing: With the framework set, the working group is urging Member States to quickly begin comprehensive end-to-end trials to ensure system readiness ahead of full S-100 implementation.
PRIMAR's Role in Sweden's S-100 Transition
PRIMAR participated in the recent National S-100 Advisory Council in Norrköping, Sweden. During the meeting, PRIMAR was highlighted as a key partner for coordinating and distributing Sweden's future S-100 products.
Moving forward, PRIMAR will be actively involved in developing delivery models.
Sweden aligns its national S-100 roadmap with PRIMAR, to ensure a seamless, standardised data distribution.
